| Comments: | I begin to attend the Birmingham Boys Club when I was 6yrs old, so around 80 or 81. I pretty much lived there as a child and often times got the attention and discipline that I may not have been given at home. I went to Camp Jimmy Goodwin as well from the time I was old enough and spent every week of camp I could at Smith Lake. Upon graduating high school, I entered the US Army for 6 yrs before returning back to work at the Boys and Girls Club. It was the most rewarding time of my life and I left to relocate to Oklahoma with my wife who is originally from here. I have often time, thought about attempting to open a club out here so that I can try to give to the kids of this generation what I was given. The one sombering thing that I can speak of is the sale and closing of Camp Jimmy Goodwin. It truelly was the best times of my life and its hard to think that other kids will not get to experience the same great times that I did there as well. To all the counselors, staff and members who ever shared these great times or helped me during my time there, I say thank you. It was a very special time in my life. |

| Comments: | I attended the club when it was on South Park Drive. Some of the best memories that I have today are during those years. I would guess that I was there between 1984 and 1987. I lived in the pool, enjoyed the video games, computer room, movie room, and the deep thuds from kids getting hit hard in warball. My favorite had to be Mrs. Bobby's art room. Thanks to Coach Cleckler and his team who provided a great, clean and positive environment for the youth of that day. |

| Comments: | I am so excited to have found this website! I attended the club from around the age of 8 to about 11 or 12 ( 1994-1998 or 1999). It was the most fun time of my life! I loved going there- I remember when Jamie Gilmore and his brother worked there- and Daryl... and the art room was ran by a little lady with grey hair but i can't remember her name??? We were as lucky as to have the Harlem Globetrotters come to the Club and shoot hoops when i was going there! And i spent a couple of summers looking forward to Camp Jimmy Goodwin! AAHHH, great times!!! All children should get to enjoy this atmosphere! You guys do a great job! |

Herbert "Pete" Peterson was the
Director; other leaders were
Tommy Watkins, Bill Dawkins.
Went to Camp Horner to work and
clean up and play, swimming in the
Cahaba with rope tied to tree for
swinging out into the river.
Played a lot of Basketball; was
pretty good at it, we went all around to play other areas like Pratt City, Gate City, Sandusky, etc.
Erskine Ramsay a big sponsor....
He gave us the bus for our travels to camp and one year to
Montgomery to play in State Chanpionship basketball games.
I dearly loved that club. w.w. |

| Comments: | I remember the Boys Club and Camp Jimmy Goodwin. We played warball, and those fun games like "Sham-Battle". Throwing those flour filled brown bags at eachother in a game of capture the flag (thats what we did before paint ball and laser tag).. Most of all there were the role models that gave me a sound start on being a responsible boy, and eventualy a man. I spent over 20 years in the US Army (retired now) and I am currently an officer for the City of La Porte Police Department (Animal Cruelty Investigator). Thanks to those lessons and expierences I had at the Boys Club and camp. Thank you.. My best memories are of those days.

| Comments: | I attended the Boys club in central park from about 83 till 90 something when it was moved to Hueytown. Most people at the club know me as Fish and a few people still do. I had a great time growing up at the club spent most of my time with ms. bobby in the art room or in the big old pool diving for the O.G. Tar balls. Loved getting away during the summer at camp always felt like i was really far from home. I loved almost everything about camp and i hat thats its gone but we all move on. To Mr. and Ms. C. thank you very much for the things you have taught me in my life i know I'm a better person because of the club. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Comments: | I attended the Boys' Club in West End from 1980-1991. I was a Jr. Leader and camp counselor but worked mostly in the kitchen at camp with Tom, Pam, and Mrs. Wilson. I also was the last 'Boy of the Year' before that award was changed to 'Youth of the Year'. I really feel those were the best days. I often reference the good times and friends I made; a few of which I still have today. The Club has changed since the days when it was on South Park Drive and when we had to hug trees at camp but I think the foundation it provides, is still there. Remember, "A man is never as tall as when he stoops to help a boy." |

| Comments: | I attended between 1985 and 1989. I fondly remember gym hockey, using the art room, watching Tron on laser disc in the TV room, and warball. The one year I got to attend the camp, we did a skit based on Carman's "The Champion". I would like to one day try and re-create the Birmingham Boy's Club experience here in Montgomery. |

| Comments: | I was a member of the Boys Club when it was located in Central City, I attended Camp Horner and helped clear out for Camp Goodwin before the lake was filled. I worked at the Club during High School and 2 summers at Camp Goodwin. Pete Peterson was the Director back then. I will never forget the time when he was attending a National event in LA that he called me(Living in San Diego at the time) to meet up with him.
